A CONVERSATION WITH MISS WENDY
by: miss wendy... WM: Hey Miss Wendy, thanks for chatting with me today. WM: No Problem! Thanks for having me. WM: How did you get here? WM: I entered the world in New York. 17 years later, I flew to Arizona. 4 years after that, I drove to San Diego. And I never left. WM: Why Theatre? WM: My earliest memories are that of sitting in New York Theatres. I remember where I was sitting, what I was wearing, who I was with, you get the point. I couldn't articulate it that early on in my life, but I felt connected. I dove into every artistic experience I could. Piano lessons, dance classes, musicals, choirs, bands...I wound up entering college as a dance major, but felt more at home in the theatre department. The rest is history. WM: What are 5 things that students might want to know about you? WM: 1. I have a freakish love of puppets; a direct result of my love for Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. I've collected them from around the world and have some of my favorites on display in my room! 2. I get the hiccups at least once a day. 3. I learned to read music before I learned to read English. And then I played classical piano for the first 10 years of my life. 4. I fly kites every summer and usually have one in the trunk of my car. 5. I have a collection of refrigerator magnets from around the world...the tackier, the better! WM: Crazy! Me too! Anyway...How did you wind up teaching Theatre at HTMCV? WM: In addition to working with youth theatre all over the country, I've taught classroom drama all over San Diego to kids from Kindergarden-High School, sometimes in two schools a day! When the opportunity arose to teach at HTMVC, I couldn't wait to be a part of it! WM: How do you spend your free time? WM: I don't have much of it! For a long time I had my own theatre company, Step UP Theatre, and that was like a second family for me here in San Diego. I love reading books, and seeing some really great shows around town. My family is spread out all over the world, so a lot of my free time is spent in airports and on planes to see them! WM: Do you perform too? WM: I do! When the project is right and when my crazy schedule allows me to, I love getting on stage and keeping those skills sharp! WM: Speaking of mad skills, are you an athlete? WM: I'm a beast in a dance rehearsal & I usually swing by Mr. Trevor's room once a day to dance with the kiddos. And you can always find me in Orangetheory with Ms. Carly, & Mr. Phil- working super hard to be a better runner! WM: What are 3 things you want to happen this school year? WM: 1. I want to travel a LOT. Staying still for a whole year and half was hard! And there are still so many places I haven't been to. 2. I want to create new shows and direct them. 3. I want to go to sleep earlier each night. ...GO. |
